OK.. so... here goes...
first... mind you, this was a benefit that Sheryl Crow did herself through her website. I don't know anyone special, and Sheryl Crow is not my long lost cousin. It was a legit package deal... something i will NEVER forget & worth every penny.
made the purchase & the itenerary for the day was emailed to me, complete with a VIP parking pass for the lot across the street from the FOX.
had to meet at the FOX at 3:45pm sharp.
we (all 25-30 of us that did this VIP experience) were escorted into the theatre.
we had to sign weivers that stated we would not "seek out Sheryl Crow" while in the building & act a fool, other wise you'd be kicked out.
then everyone headed in for soundcheck. the band begin showing up & about 20 min. in, Sheryl came in with her dog & sister. they probably did about 6 songs, including "If It Makes You Happy" 3 times... there is this 16 year old girl from texas named Cheyanne and she has a cd coming out & currently has a reality show on MTV. seems she loves Sheryl & wanted to come down & sing "If It Makes You Happy" with her. So.. in came Cheyanne & her crew with the entire MTV film crew... and from that point on MTV was filming pretty much through out the rest of the day. (including during the show while i was in the 3rd row... look for ME on the Cheyanne show!)
after soundcheck we were split in to 2 groups & were taken on stage where Sheryl shook each persons hand and said hello. Then there was a group photo taken on stage in front of the drum set. [no autographs were allowed at this point, as the opening act had to do his soundcheck as well before the theatre opened to the public].
after that we had "crowd free merchandise shopping".. which really was a hoot... it was a nice idea.. but who cares really? seemed some of the fans did.. they were all over it.. buying $50 track jackets & $35 t-shirts. [no tour book for me to buy] :(
after this we all were told to meet next door at BAZAAR and head up to the VIP lounge for the pre-show party. there was an open bar (how HOT!) and light appetizers served. the group escort then passed out our concert tickets, raffle tickets & discount coupon for the sheryl crow on line store. all 25-30 of us who bought the 5 star packages were within the first 3 rows of the PIT! then there was the raffle which was a pretty cool idea.. even though i didn't win anything. there was tour merchandise given away (including 1 of the $50 track jackets!) as well as an autographed cd & an autographed framed 8X10 photo.
then the gift bags were given out... a leather CD wallet/case & a white leather iPod case.. both with the Sheryl Crow "Wildflower" cd logo screen printed on the front. (the iPod case was really excited, but it doesn't work with my video iPod.. the headphone jack hole is in the wrong place).
at this point it was nearing 7:45pm & we were then given the option to get a security escort to put seats at the FOX, or hang out at the party. I opted for the hanging out at the party with the open bar for a bit longer... as Sheryl was not coming on until 9pm. met a nice woman named christy from alabama & we had a good time talking about our day.
then went next door for the show... decided my last drink of the night was going to be a beer (since i opted to drive ryan's car over & use my VIP parking i paid for). some drunk fat straight man asked me to buy him a beer... as the opening act had just come off stage & the line for a drink was unreal. i told him i would let him cut in line if he bought me a beer. which he did. nice.
headed down to my seat... 3rd row pit.. row CCC... i was probably about 5 feet from Sheryl the entire show. It was amazing... and I loved the set list. I was excited to hear some random earlier album cuts & not an entire show filled with the latest music from the "Wildflower" cd with the hits scattered throughout the set. "It Don't Hurt" and "Mississippi" were really exciting! And i was glad to hear some earlier stuff from the first album.
after the show was said & done, the girl i met, christy... and i decided that since were were unable to get Sheryl's autograph during the VIP day, we would try by the bus at the stage door. we saw a large crowd & decided to use the restroom & put some stuff away in our cars. headed back & all the other fans were still outside the stage door so we headed into the crowd. about 10 minutes later Sheryl came out... she saw us & walked straight towards us (maybe she recognized us from earlier in the day??) and signed my ticket stub & christy's cd cover. sweet!
and then we met up with chrsity's friend wes & we headed to blake's for some beer & to re-live our super-duper-all-access-we're-obsessed-with-sheryl-crow-we-met-herand-you-didn't-VIP-soundcheck-we-had-PIT-seats-AND-gotautographs-DAY.

many of the shows on this tour have been moved to a larger venue in order to accomidate more fans... but who knows if this one will be.

| copy protected CD's : class action lawsuit info |

so, i had heard about this in USAToday a few months back. somehow i ended up on the mailing list for the lawsuit. (not sure how, maybe one of the artist's lists i'm on that has a cd effected by this - imogen heap, dido, britney spears - provided their fan's email address, which was smart).
this is the deal...
there is a list of cd's at the above mentioned site that contain "hidden" software. if you put these cd's into your computer's hard-drive, this software is downloading onto your computer without you knowing it. this keeps you from copying the cd. why this is bad (other than for the intended purpose the record company wanted it used for)... is that while connected to the world wide web, this software (you don't know is on your computer) allows virus' & i believe even hackers to see right into your computers through you firewalls & all that lovely virus protection you spend money on.
so, in reality this is bad. even though these cd's do cleary state on the covers that the discs do in fact contain copy-protection, they fail to tell you what this "hidden" softward really does. and granted, i don't think they were aware of what it was doing until some super-computer-guy figured it out.
i read though the claims & possible benefits of being part of this suit...
they are offering cash ($7.50 for each cd you own of a certian type), album downloads, etc. the point is to replace the mp3's on your computer that may contain a virus. the one's with the really bad software may get 2 album downloads. but here's the catch... this really sucks... in order for yout o be elligiable for these benefits, you must either mail in your original cd's, or provide a copy of proof of purchase (who keeps record store sales receipts that long??!?!?!?).
when all this hoopla started, i read on the imogen heap website (and in USAToday) that customers who have these cd's who wanted to rip them to their computer & make an mp3 for transport (your ipod), if you were sitting at your computer, had iTunes already open & THEN inserted the cd.. where iTunes would then recognize the disc & allow you to import it... then you more than likely DO NOT even have this illegal software on your computer. somehow iTunes by-passed their copy-protection.... when done this way.
